South Carolina fined $100k for storming court after beating Kentucky
Luckily, there was no Caitlin Clark situation in this one, but South Carolina’s court-storming did cost the Gamecocks a nice chunk of change.
The Southeastern Conference announced on Wednesday that the University of South Carolina has been hit with a $100,000 penalty for “a violation of the league’s access to competition area policy” after fans ran onto the floor following the men’s basketball team’s stunning 79-62 win over No. 6 Kentucky on Tuesday night.
As part of the updated policies voted on at the SEC Spring Meetings in 2023, the opposing institution — in this case, the University of Kentucky — will be paid the fine.

Since this was the first violation for the Gamecocks, the fine was “only” $100,000. A second offense results in a $250,000 fine while a third results in a $500,000 fine.
South Carolina fans (who obviously don’t have to pay the fine and will storm the court again if given the opportunity) will probably tell you it was money well spent.
