Perhaps the biggest storyline to develop from Kentucky’s fall camp was the emergence of Rutgers transfer Gavin Wimsatt at the quarterback position. Brock Vandagriff is clearly the guy in Lexington, but new offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan will have a package for Wimsatt. Another team on Kentucky’s schedule could have something similar.

As fall camp closes wraps up in Columbia, head coach Shane Beamer has not yet named a starting quarterback. The program is attempting to replace fifth-round pick Spencer Rattler behind center. Former four-star recruit LaNorris Sellers was considered the heavy frontrunner for the position leaving spring but the redshirt freshman is being pushed by Auburn transfer Robby Ashford.

That changed on Monday when Beamer named Sellers the starting quarterback in Columbia.

A starter is now in place, but we can reasonably expect South Carolina offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains to play both Sellers and Ashford when the Gamecocks open the season against Old Dominion.

The Auburn transfer surprisingly pushed Sellers after completing only 49.5 percent of his 277 passes over the last two years at Auburn. But the class of 2020 signee is a dangerous runner with 1,071 non-sack rushing yards and 12 touchdowns in his career. When the Gamecocks travel to Kentucky in Week 2, a two-quarterback system could be used.

“Both of those guys have been working with the first group,” Beamer said. “I would anticipate seeing both of them as we get into the season because they’re all talented guys and can bring something to the position.”

Kentucky is all-in on Vandagriff but wants to have a package for Wimsatt. South Carolina did not go all-in on Sellers until camp ended. How much Ashford will we see in Week 2? The Wildcats should be prepared to see a two-quarterback system.
