Steelers add former Wildcat defensive end Calvin Taylor Jr. to practice squad

Just weeks after releasing him, Calvin Taylor Jr. is back in Pittsburgh.

On Friday morning, the Steelers announced that they have added the former Kentucky Wildcats defensive end to their practice squad, releasing cornerback Trajan Bandy in the process. Taylor was initially signed to the Steelers after going undrafted in the 2020 Draft but was released earlier this month. He met with the Pittsburgh organization on Wednesday before ultimately resigning with the team and replacing Daniel McCullers on the practice squad.

Weighing roughly 310 pounds and standing somewhere around 6-foot-8, Taylor is a physically imposing figure on the gridiron. He spent the entire training camp with the Steelers, so he’ll be returning to familiar territory as he attempts to get his NFL career rolling. In joining the Steel Curtain, Taylor will team up with fellow Wildcats and his former collegiate teammates, Benny Snell and Bud Dupree.

During his time impressive tenure at Kentucky, Taylor recorded 85 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, and 10.5 sacks while being named to the All-SEC Third Team as a senior. Looks like we’re all Steelers fans now, whether we like it or not.
