"Come Home to Kentucky": Steve Zahn films ad campaign for VisitLEX

Steve Zahn may have been born in Minnesota, but for the past 20 years, he’s lived on a horse farm outside of Lexington, which makes him an honorary Kentuckian. The actor loves the Bluegrass State so much that he’s worked with VisitLEX on a few projects, the most recent being a new ad campaign in which he encourages people to “come home” to Kentucky.
The minute-long spot dropped on social media this morning. In it, Zahn sits in a horse barn, looking out at the scenery. When he sees the camera, he jumps up, throws a chair out of excitement, and welcomes viewers home to Kentucky.
“You’re no dummy. You’re coming home in June. You always come home in June. It’s the best time to come home to Kentucky.”
As someone who moved out of the state after college, I can attest to June being a great time to return to the Bluegrass. The part where Zahn stops talking to appreciate the view of his farm — “Oh wait, this is my favorite part. I love that part.” — hits home as well.

“You know what Happy Chandler said,” Zahn says, referencing the former Kentucky governor and U.S. Senator. “‘I never met a Kentuckian who wasn’t coming home.’ Welcome home.”
This is far from the first time we’ve talked about Steve Zahn on KSR. The Emmy-nominated actor, best known for his roles in “Reality Bites,” “That Thing You Do!”, “Dallas Buyers Club,” and more recently, “The White Lotus,” is a huge Kentucky fan and has been a guest on the radio show several times. In 2022, he even did a video with Rich Scangarello in which he filled in for Kentucky’s then-offensive coordinator.
That feels like a million years ago. If you’re looking for some fun reading this afternoon, check out this Reddit thread about random Steve Zahn encounters in Lexington. He’s an entertaining character.
