Stuart Miller from Middlesboro

by:Matt Jones02/24/06

Few knew, especially me, that my hometown would become the new recruiting mecca of the state as Middlesboro high school guard Stuart Miller is now being recruited (as a walk-on) by both Kentucky and Louisville in their search for the next Chris Lofton. Miller has a chance to break the NATIONAL…yes NATIONAL three point record in the next few games as he is 12 shy of that mark. I have to say that for the Jackets to be producing such a record is really unbelievable to me. With a legacy of Larry Bruner, Tim Millett, etc, one would not have expected that success….but it may be coming. He recently passed the state career record for career 3 pointers, held by Chris Harrison.

So the question I keep getting is, “is he any good?” Well that is tough to say. He is obviously a GREAT shooter. But the offense is geared around him and he gets lots of shots. Having said that, even with such focus, he is shooting 43% from three point land, which is good. I think Stuart is your classic lower Div 1/Div II player. He only has two scholarship offers, both from Division II schools. One has to wonder why the Easterns, Moreheads, ETSU, etc are not recruiting him. I think it would be GREAT if he went to either UK or UL. And if he goes to UL I will pull for him (although word is he is a big UK fan, as is everyone in Bell County….you have a better chance of finding an ACLU member down there than a Cards fan). However no one should expect this to be a Chris Lofton scenario. Stuart is a great high school player and one that those of us with connections to the Boro are happy about. But I would be surprised if he changed the fortunes of either UK or UL in a significant way.

But either way, I am pulling hard for the national record. Go STUART!!!
