The Kentucky high school football playoffs delivered an enormous upset in Friday night’s regional championships round. For the first time in five years, there will be a new state champion in 4A.

Boyle County won 32 straight games and is ranked No. 18 in the On3 National High School Football Composite Rankings. That streak was snapped by the Colonels from Covington Catholic.

Cov Cath converted on a fourth and eight to set up Owen Pitzer’s two-yard touchdown to give the Colonels the lead with just over five minutes remaining.

Unfazed, the Rebels responded by marching down the field. Kentucky commit Montavin Quisenberry did it all for Boyle, rushing for 246 yards in the rain and two touchdowns. He also returned a kick 85 yards for a touchdown. They needed one more from the Mr. Football candidate. Quisenberry scampered 18 yards to the end zone when he fumbled at the one-yard line.
