J.D. PicKell's Thoughts on the Cringe of Brian Kelly, Eliah Drinkwitz, and Dabo Swinney

Kentucky lost a priority target at tight end on Thursday when top-500 prospect Brody Lennon committed to Ohio State. Another potential target came off the board on Saturday.

Jacksonville (Fla.) Riverside tight end Tae’shaun Gelsey ended his recruitment with a commitment to Florida. Billy Napier‘s third full recruiting class in Gainesville now has eight commits with a pair of top-200 prospects.

“It’s the relationship I have with each coach. Everyone is just brought together and everybody is just family. They made me feel welcome and it’s just a great environment they have,” Gelsey told On3‘s Gators Online.

“I was told they were glad to have me and can’t wait to see what I can do at the next level and during my senior year. They just can’t wait to get me on campus.”

The three-star recruit, top-50 tight end, and top-100 prospect in the Sunshine State took official visits to Florida (May 31-June 2) and Tulane (June 20-22) during the live recruiting period. Napier’s program did enough to receive a commitment. Kentucky was named a finalist in June for Tae’shaun Gelsey but never got the tight end prospect on campus for an official visit in June.

Kentucky will enter July with zero tight end commits following the commitments of Brody Lennon and Tae’shaun Gelsey. However, the Wildcats are in good shape at that position both in 2024 and in the immediate future.
