The Big Dog went to his old stomping grounds to add another big body to his position group. Tanner LeMaster announced his commitment to Kentucky on Friday. A 6-foot-6, 235-pound tight end from Washington Court House, Oh., LeMaster chose the Wildcats over Tennessee, Cincinnati and Indiana.

LeMaster is a three-star prospect according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Both Rivals and 247 Sports consider LeMaster the No. 30 tight end in America.

The addition of LeMaster gives Kentucky five commitments in its 2023 recruiting class, currently ranked just outside of the top 25. Vince Marrow has served as the primary recruiter for four of the five commitments.

A long-time Kentucky recruit, LeMaster was a standout at a camp on UK’s campus last summer. He has length to make contested catches over defenders, and enjoys lowering his shoulder to pancake defenders in the run game.

“He’s got really good hands. He’s a good athlete for his size. Excellent athlete. He does a lot of things well. He blocks well, runs good routes, catches the ball,” LeMaster’s coach, Chuck Williamson, told KSR last fall. “You can’t say enough good things about him. I think he’s a 3.9 (GPA) student. He excels in the classroom and on the field he’s just a nightmare matchup for anyone. The last two years he’s had two game-winners; basically, we throw it up and he goes and gets it.”

The Wildcats will deploy a deep group of tight ends this fall, using the versatile position group in a variety of ways. However, the room is getting old. Time is ticking for upperclassmen Brenden Bates and Keaton Upshaw. Marrow must add to his arsenal and LeMaster provides physicality the Cats love to use to maul opponents in the run game. The Ohio tight end will fit in just fine at the University of Kentucky.
