It’s a Merry Flipmas in the Bluegrass. Entering the final week of the open recruiting period, Tavion Gadson was a Florida State commit. Following an official visit to Lexington, Gadson is a Kentucky Wildcat.

A 6-foot-5, 270-pound defensive lineman from Savannah, GA, Gadson did not initially plan on putting pen to paper during the Early Signing Period. In addition to hearing from Florida State, he was also being heavily recruited by Tennessee. The Volunteers wanted him to wait to sign until February and take an official visit to Knoxville. Instead, Kentucky’s coaches convinced him to end the recruiting rat race over the weekend during his official visit in Lexington. Anwar Stewart and Chris Collins did plenty of heavy lifting for the Wildcats in the talented defensive lineman’s recruitment.

“The coaches just made it right,” Gadson told 247’s Steve Wiltfong. “I feel I would fit in their schemes because I can play in a 3-4 front and they see that and I feel like when it’s time they’ll use me where I’m needed.”

Tavion Gadson is the No. 680 overall prospect and No. 72 defensive lineman in the 2023 On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Gadson joins Boyle County’s Tommy Ziesmer as the second defensive lineman in Kentucky’s 2023 recruiting class. Like Ziesmer, the two-sport athlete moves well for his size. What makes Gadson different, and an ideal fit on Stewart’s defensive line, is his length. Tavion Gadson uses his long arms to create separation, shuck blockers and make plays behind the line of scrimmage.
