TaxSlayer Bowl selection announcement coming early today, expected soon after 3:30 p.m. ET

UK will get to find out they're going to Jacksonville a little earlier than expected on Sunday when the selections start rolling in. TaxSlayer Bowl president Rick Catlett fully expects the Cats to be the choice when the Jacksonville bowl game gets to make their selection this afternoon around 3:30 p.m. ET today.
After bowls like the Russell Athletic Bowl and Citrus Bowl get to make their choices known, Catlett said he is confident the Cats would still be around to be selected and the bowl will put them as their #1 choice.
Catlett said he’s spoken with athletic director Mitch Barnhart, but the conversations have only been speculatory.
“I’ve talked to Mitch, but there’s no commitment on their part,” Catlett said. “There won’t be until 3:30 p.m. today. So anything we talk about now is speculative based on what other bowl directors have told me.”
Kentucky’s potential opponent would either be Georgia Tech or Miami, Catlett said. He’s still in discussions with the ACC office. Both teams finished 8-4.
Once the TaxSlayer Bowl makes its official announcement, Stoops and Barnhart will be joined by the opposing coach and athletic director at 6 p.m. Sunday. And then the countdown to the bowl game begins.
UKathletics.com will have a live stream of the bowl selection after the choice has been announced and the Cats know their bowl destination. The TaxSlayer Bowl kicks off at 11 a.m. on Dec. 31 in Jacksonville.Team Announcement may be earlier than originally expected. 🙃
