Temple hires Kentucky MBB's assistant video director Andrew Ortelli

After a dozen years working under John Calipari, Kentucky men’s basketball assistant video director Andrew Oretlli has landed a new gig.
On Friday afternoon, Temple men’s basketball announced that it has hired Oretlli to be the program’s video coordinator. Ortelli spent the last six seasons as Kentucky’s assistant video coordinator and has been a member of Calipari’s staff in some capacity for the last 12 seasons. A 2015 graduate of UK, he served two seasons as a graduate assistant after spending four years as a student manager for the Wildcats.
The Bridgewater, NJ, native led Kentucky’s scouting and film efforts during his most recent role with the program. He will now link up with the Owls’ new head coach Adam Fisher, who was hired on March 29.
“We are so happy to have Andrew join our Temple staff as our Video Coordinator,” Fisher said in Temple’s press release. “Andrew has accumulated a vast amount of experience, working in the video operations at one of the top programs in the nation, the University of Kentucky. He has the perfect background in terms of breaking down video for our staff and players to help take our program to the next level. I am really excited to have him join our staff and run our video department.”
While working as the assistant video director at Kentucky, Ortelli also helped with devising the playbook, recruiting presentations, and analytical video content, among other areas. He was also the video coordinator for the Team USA U19 squad that participated in the 2017 World Games.

“I could not be more thrilled to join Coach Fisher and the staff to serve our players and continue to build upon the already great legacy that is Temple Basketball,” Ortelli said in the release. “My experience in Lexington to work for and learn from a Hall of Fame Coach in Coach Cal, all of the great players, assistants, and administrators over the past 12 seasons, and be a part of a first class organization that is the University of Kentucky is something I’ll always cherish.
“Coach Fisher’s vision for the future of Temple Basketball, his commitment to invest in people, and his relationship-first approach makes the future here on North Broad Street very bright.”
So far this offseason, Calipari has now lost Ortelli to Temple and assistant KT Turner to a head coaching job at UT Arlington. However, Kentucky is expected to hire John Welch, the father of former UK graduate assistant Riley Welch, to Calipari’s staff, KSR’s Jack Pilgrim reports, although that news has yet to be made official.
