Tennessee Offensive Tackle Gerald Mincey Transfers to Kentucky
It looked like Kentucky’s work in the transfer portal was done until after spring practice. Boy, were we wrong. For the second time this week the Wildcats made a splash by pulling a player from an opposing SEC school. Offensive tackle Gerald Mincey announced on Friday night that he is transferring to Kentucky.
Mincey chose the Cats over Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin, the supposed transfer portal king. The veteran offensive tackle changed his plans late in the process, cancelling a visit to Ole Miss to travel to Lexington.
A 6-foot-6, 337-pound offensive tackle from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Mincey is a significant addition to the Big Blue Wall. He’s a four-year veteran in the SEC that has starts at both left and right tackle. With only three offensive tackles on the depth chart to end the season, he is just what the Wildcats need.
Mincey Commits to Kentucky, Again
This is the second time Gerald Mincey has committed to Kentucky. A product of Cardinal Gibbons High School, the same school that sent Nik Scalzo and Nik Ognenovic to UK, Mincey pledged his allegiance to the Wildcats early in the 2020 recruiting cycle. It did not stick, but Kentucky did not burn that bridge.

The big body from the Sunshine State ended up staying close to home. He committed to Dan Mullen and joined the Florida football team. Mincey playing sparingly in his redshirt freshman season, appearing in ten games and taking 49 snaps. Once Mullen was terminated, Mincey sought greener pastures in the transfer portal.
Tennessee welcomed Mincey with open arms and immediately put him to work. During his first season with the Vols he appeared in nine games and started in seven at left tackle. In 457 snaps he only allowed one sack, helping Tennessee win 11 games for the first time in a million years. This fall he slid to the other side of the offensive line and made seven starts in almost 600 snaps at right tackle, allowing just two sacks all season.
Kentucky desperately needed big bodies on the end of its offensive line. They found a guy who has more than 1,000 snaps in the SEC. The outlook of the Big Blue Wall in 2024 looks significantly better with Gerald Mincey in the picture.
