Tennessee will rock orange britches again at Kroger Field
At SEC Media Days, new Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel went on record to say that his football program would experiment with some different uniform combinations. That has played out in 2021.
Against South Carolina, the Vols sported all-black uniforms. Tennessee even gave the helmet some black trim around the historic orange T as the new coaching staff is attempting to put their unique spin on Rocky Top.
Throughout time, Tennessee has long stayed with white helmets and white pants. At home, orange jerseys would be worn. On the road, the Vols would sport white jerseys.
However, the power of the orange britches has long been a thing talked about in Knoxville. In 1977, the Vols broke them out under Johnny Majors and housed Vanderbilt. In 2019, the pants were used and Tennessee collected upset victories over Mississippi State and Kentucky.

The Vols are going to the well once again on Saturday.
UT wore orange pants against Kentucky at home last season and got thumped by the Wildcats thanks to a pair of defensive touchdowns. In their first road game of this season, the Vols sported orange pants and were hammered by Florida. Tennessee again put on the orange britches at home but would go on to lose to Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin.
Another trend could be developing. The Vols are currently a 1-point favorite in the game, but the underdog has won three in a row in this series. Tennessee has also lost three in a row in games where the magical pants are worn.
That is a ton of ugly orange. Let’s see if Kentucky can take advantage and extend a couple of trends on Saturday night.
