Texas A&M can clinch top-2 seed in SEC Tournament with one more win

Kentucky still has a chance at claiming the No. 2 seed in the 2023 SEC Tournament. Texas A&M could end that on Tuesday night in Oxford.
With just two games remaining in college basketball’s regular season, NCAA Tournament scenarios are beginning to get smaller. So are conference tournament scenarios. Kentucky could clinch a top three-seed in the SEC Tournament with a home win over Vanderbilt on Wednesday night, but the Cats could be eliminated from the No. 2 seed before we get there.
Texas A&M (21-8, 13-3) is fresh off a close road loss to Mississippi State on Saturday, but the Aggies are still alive for the SEC regular season championship. However, Alabama would have to lose to Auburn at home on senior day before setting up a clash with A&M on Saturday for the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament. However, Buzz Williams’ team owns its own destiny for the No. 2 seed.
The Aggies enter the last week with a two-game lead over Kentucky (20-9, 11-5) in the standings and travel to Ole Miss to take on the Rebels who just fired head coach Kermit Davis. A win would lock up a top two seed for A&M.

Despite a rough 6-5 start with a pair of sub-200 losses, Texas A&M got things turned around after Christmas and is 15-3 in the last 18 games. Now the Aggies can clinch the No. 2 seed in the SEC Tournament. However, a loss would keep Kentucky alive.
If both teams ended up at 13-5, the tiebreaker would go to Kentucky and the Cats would get the No. 2 overall seed. However, UK would have to beat both Vanderbilt and Arkansas this week while A&M would have to lose out.
On Wednesday morning, we’ll know if Kentucky has a chance to get to the No. 2 seed. Or if Kentucky will be one win away from officially clinching the No. 3 seed. The Cats and Aggies could meet next Saturday afternoon in Nashville. The results this week will tell us who could be wearing the home jerseys if that turns into a semifinal matchup.
