Smart, who has a 109–86 overall record at Texas, has yet to win a game in the NCAA Tournament in six seasons with the Longhorns. In fact, the 43-year-old coach has not won an NCAA Tournament game since 2013, getting out of the opening weekend just one time in his entire coaching career (VCU, 2010-11). The Longhorns were upset in the opening round of this year’s tournament by 13-seed Abilene Christian.

Prior to his time at Texas (2015-2021) and VCU (2009-2015), Smart served as an assistant at Akron, Clemson and Florida.
Smart is expected to replace Steve Wojciechowski, who spent seven seasons at Marquette before getting fired this offseason. Wojo finished his time with the Golden Eagles with a 128-95 record, making two NCAA Tournaments and one NIT.
Interesting. Very, very interesting.
