Texas fires Rodney Terry to hire Sean Miller

Rodney Terry‘s Texas career has come to an end after three seasons and three NCAA Tournament appearances. The former assistant coach replaced Chris Beard after he was dismissed by the Longhorns and led this program to the Elite Eight in 2022. After word leaked out earlier in the week, athletic director Chris Del Conte officially fired Terry on Tuesday.
He will be replaced by the man who beat him in the First Four. Sean Miller will be the next head coach at Texas.
The two-time Xavier head coach finished his recent stint at the private school in Cincinnati with 185 wins in three seasons and two NCAA Tournament appearances. Miller, 56, is a former Pittsburgh point guard and Xavier assistant under Thad Matta who became a head coach in 2004 at age 34. Miller led the Musketeers to the Elite Eight in 2008. Miller left Xavier following the 2009 season for the Arizona job.

During 12 seasons in Tucson, Sean Miller won five conference titles and three conference tournament titles. Arizona finished 302-109 (.735) under his watch but could never get to the Final Four. The Wildcats made the Elite Eight three times. Miller was fired due to the college basketball corruption scandal that involved the FBI and also led to the Rick Pitino firing at Louisville. The head coach was forced to vacate 50 wins.
After taking one season off, Sean Miller re-emerged at Xavier. Now he’s at one of the best jobs in college basketball. The SEC just another accomplished coach to the conference.
