The SEC may have solidified a record that will be hard to break on Selection Sunday. No. 13 seed Texas, the first team out in the latest bracket projections going into the day, pulled off a big-time upset vs. No. 5 seed Texas A&M to add a seventh Quad 1 victory for the Longhorns — likely solidifying an NCAA Tournament bid while also potentially saving Rodney Terry‘s job.

It was a brutal game of Buzz Williams ball to get there, both teams seemingly trying to give it away to the other as the timeouts and late fouls stacked up in the double overtime finish, Texas coming out on top 94-89.

Tre Johnson led the Longhorns with 20 points on 8-21 shooting, followed by Tramon Mark with 15, Kadin Shedrick with 14, Jordan Pope with 1, Arthur Kaluma with 12 and Chendai Weaver with 10. For the Aggies, Wade Taylor scored 29 on 5-18 shooting with a ridiculous 17-18 finish at the line.

It’s not only about Texas potentially punching a ticket to the Big Dance, either. They may be in, but A&M was also the No. 10 overall team as a No. 3 seed, battling Kentucky — No. 9 overall and also on the No. 3 seed line — for placement. There was some concern that the Aggies could work their way toward that coveted No. 2 seed line, a mark that has not yet been ruled out for the Wildcats with a run in Nashville. That is now out of play for A&M, opening the door for some real upside on Selection Sunday — should UK take care of business tonight and beyond.

Oh, speaking of that. Double overtime absolutely screwed tonight’s tip-off time between Kentucky vs. Oklahoma. Originally scheduled for 9:30 PM ET, we’re now looking at a 10:13 PM ET tip, at minimum. That’s assuming Missouri and Mississippi State, who will tip at 7:48 PM ET, end in exactly two hours.

In other words, prepare for 10:30 PM ET or later, folks.

Until then, here is the list of potential NCAA Tournament bids for the SEC:

  • Auburn
  • Florida
  • Alabama
  • Tennessee
  • Kentucky
  • Texas A&M
  • Ole Miss
  • Missouri
  • Mississippi State
  • Georgia
  • Vanderbilt
  • Arkansas
  • Oklahoma
  • Texas

Not too shabby.
