Thad Matta is done at Ohio State
The Thad Matta era at Ohio State is over. After 13 seasons, the Buckeyes just announced they are parting ways with Matta, effective immediately. In a press conference, Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith insisted this was his decision, and Matta agreed to it. Even though Matta is only 49, he’s battled health issues for several years following a botched back surgery. He’s the winningest coach in Ohio State basketball history, reaching two Final Fours and five Sweet 16s, but the Buckeyes have stalled in recent years, missing the last two NCAA Tournaments.
So…who can Ohio State get this late in the game? Can they pry Chris Mack from Xavier? Snag Gregg Marshall from Wichita State? Or will they have to resort to, dare I say it…
…TOM CREAN???
