Thank you for the memories, Georgia Amoore and Dazia Lawrence

Kentucky’s season came to an end on Sunday in a heartbreaking loss at the buzzer in overtime. One unfortunate bounce of the ball, and the collegiate careers of Georgia Amoore and Dazia Lawrence came to a close.
While it sucks, one loss doesn’t negate the incredible things that the two fifth-year seniors did this season. So, in honor of what they were able to accomplish in their lone year in Lexington, let’s reflect and take a look at the special moments they gave Big Blue Nation.
Throwing the L’s down after first win over Louisville since 2015
The first signature game of the Kenny Brooks era. Oh how fun it was.
Brooks had won his last three games over Jeff Walz and Louisville, but the Cardinals had beaten Kentucky seven straight times. Heading into the game, it was about as even a matchup as you could draw out. Couple that with the heated rivalry aspect of it, and it was an intense, awesome game. 40 minutes just wasn’t enough either. It took an overtime period for Kentucky to pull out the 71-61 win.
It marked the first of four sold out games in Historic Memorial Coliseum this season, and the building was rocking from start to finish. After the game, the newly renovated arena went into a frenzy. Brooks pumped his fist and pointed to the crowd, and Georgia Amoore and Dazia Lawrence threw the L’s down.
Amoore had 19 points and nine assists in the win, while Lawrence had 14 points, three assists and three rebounds on 6-11 shooting. This was a bit of a breakout game for each of them, paving the way for the success we’d see the rest of the way.
Combining for 38 points and 10 assists in narrow win over Belmont
Non-conference games tend to be forgetful, especially non-conference games against mid-major teams. Those are typically comfortable wins for a team like Kentucky, but the Bruins gave the Cats a serious run for their money.
To that point in the season, all of Kentucky’s win were by double digits, but that was no more following the six-point, 84-78 win over Belmont. Again, that game was a lot tighter than it should have been.
Amoore would put up 23 points, five assists and three rebounds while knocking down seven three-pointers as Lawrence tallied 15 points, five assists, five rebounds and three steals as well. After being down 39-33 at the half, those two propelled Kentucky to a much-needed win heading into conference play.
Splash Sisters hit 14 threes in rout of Mississippi State
And speaking of conference play, it got started with a bang as Kentucky dominated Mississippi State, beating the Bulldogs 91-69 in front of a ruckus home crowd.
This was the game that Kentucky hit a program record 18 threes, with Amoore and Lawrence knocking down seven apiece. Lawrence had 28 points and four assists on the night, and Amoore had 27 points and nine assists in 35 minutes of play.
It may be a very long time before we see a shooting performance like that again, and the two fifth-years were the catalysts for it.
Dominating Vanderbilt on the road in eye-opening fashion
Under Shea Ralph, Vanderbilt has become one of the more underrated teams in the SEC, and it helps that they’re led by stars Mikayla Blakes (FR) and Khamil Pierre (SO) who each have a lot more time to spend in Nashville before their careers are all said and done.
So, when the Vanderbilt game — a game on the road, may I add — popped up on the schedule, things suddenly become tricky. Should Kentucky have beaten the Commodores? Yeah, probably. But it’s not like Vanderbilt was a bad team. They spent some time in the AP Top 25 this year, after all.
That’s why it was eye-opening to see Kentucky not just beat Vanderbilt, but crush them in Memorial Gymnasium. It was a 96-78 win for the Cats, and Amoore and Lawrence went off to seal the deal.
Amoore had a team-high 24 points and nine assists, and Lawrence had 17 points to add to the stat sheet. With Kentucky sitting at 13-1 and 2-0 in the SEC, it was really at this point that we figured out that this could be a special season.

Amoore ties program record 43 points in win at Oklahoma
Nothing quite says special like the night Georgia Amoore had on February 2, 2025. Not only did Kentucky gut out a 95-86 win at then No. 13 Oklahoma, but the 5-foot-6 point guard made history.
She tied the program record for points in a game with 43, making 15 of her 22 shots and seven of her 12 three-point attempts. The Sooners had absolutely no answer for her, and she exploited them for 39 minutes.
Lawrence had a good game in Norman too, scoring 14 points on 5-11 (3-7 3PT) shooting while also recording four assists, two rebounds and two steals.
Leading Kentucky to a 24-point win over Tennessee
If there was a game that could be named “Most Fun Game of the Year”, it would probably be the Tennessee game. The Cats and Lady Vols were dueling for a potential double bye in the SEC Tournament, and the No. 11 team in the country was riding high having won six of their last seven games, one of those coming over No. 5 UConn. Oh, and of course, the rivalry.
Kim Caldwell’s defensive style of relentless pressing backfired as Kentucky just dominated the Lady Vols in transition. Before we could even blink, a blowout was in store in Lexington. Big Blue Nation celebrated as Kentucky got an 82-58 win over Tennessee, further cementing the fact that Kentucky owns that ugly orange school on the hardwood.
Amoore had 18 points on 7-14 (3-8 3PT) shooting, and some of her seven assists went to Lawrence, who had 13 points, five assists and five rebounds in the win.
Escaping with a victory over Liberty behind heroic efforts
Then, the Liberty game. That would end up being Kentucky’s last win of the season, and it was one to remember. After leading 67-50 with just over nine minutes left in the game, the Flames had fought all the way back to make it a one-point game with a banked in three from 35 feet out. It was truly one of the more insane things to occur this season.
Amoore put the team on her back, scoring 34 points on 12-24 (6-10 3PT) shooting as she tied A’dia Mathies’ single-game scoring record for an NCAA Tournament game. She also had eight assists in the game, playing all 40 minutes of the contest.
As for Lawrence, she — as she did all season long — hit some big, momentum-shifting shots as she recorded 16 points, three assists, two rebounds and two blocks in the 79-78 win.
We got a lot from Amoore and Lawrence. They helped lay the foundation for the future of Kentucky women’s basketball, and that alone is something special. After transferring in for one year in Lexington, both made Big Blue Nation proud and became Wildcats forever.
Thanks for the memories, Georgia Amoore and Dazia Lawrence.
