The Governor's Cup made an appearance at Rupp Arena
All eyes were on Kentucky Basketball on Tuesday when the Wildcats hosted and smoked a top-10 Miami team in the ACC/SEC Challenge. It was an incredible night in Rupp Arena, one that the building, the team, and the fan base craved. Downtown Lexington hasn’t seen many wins like that one in a while.
During the game, the Wildcats shared the spotlight of nearly 20,000 screaming fans with several of UK Athletics’ other programs. Of course, the dance team and the cheerleaders got plenty of time to shine during timeouts. Kentucky Volleyball got a much-deserved roar from the Big Blue Nation, too. Head coach Craig Skinner and his team were recognized at midcourt for their SEC regular season championship and the start of postseason play coming up. They’re the hottest team on campus, you know. They host Wofford at Rupp on Thursday.
But the biggest non-basketball pop, without question, came when the Governor’s Cup trophy got a turn at midcourt. Kentucky Football brought the rivalry trophy home from Louisville to store it in Lexington for a fifth straight year, and it made its first new public appearance Tuesday night in the second half of Kentucky-Miami.

The players didn’t look like they’ve slowed down since Saturday. L’s were down. The crowd was loud. Louisville was hated. Eli Cox, who announced his return for another season earlier today, thanked the fans for their support.
And then the fun night continued with more exciting basketball and a 22-point victory over a top-10 team.
