The New Orleans Pelicans sign Brandon Boston Jr. to a two-way deal
Brandon Boston Jr. is on the move again. The man informally known as BJ is on his way to the Big Easy where he will join forces with another former Kentucky player, rookie Antonio Reeves. The San Antonio Spurs waived Boston on Monday, but the New Orleans Pelicans picked him up off waivers and immediately signed him to a two-way contract.
Boston spent the first three years of his NBA career with the LA Clippers, but his first-round talent never fully materialized on the court. Although he had some incredible moments in Los Angeles including a 30-point game against the Celtics and an absolute posterization of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Boston spent most of his time oscillating between the end of the bench and the G League.
When the Clippers declined their option to re-sign the 6-foot-6-inch forward, San Antonio swooped in and added him as part of a training camp deal. In four preseason games with the Spurs, Boston averaged 2.8 points in just 7.3 minutes of action.
Unfortunately, Kentucky fans are not surprised. Boston played far below expectations in his one season in Lexington and in a way, was the poster child for one of the most forgettable teams in Kentucky history during the Covid year.

Just like at Kentucky, Boston showed flashes of brilliance in the NBA but has never been able to put a consistent run together. Let’s see if he can finally find a groove in New Orleans, a place known for its grooviness.
If nothing else, he’ll be playing in the same city where Kentucky won the National Championship in 2012, so he can always cherish that.
