There's a Mascot Controversy at Transy

Transymascots Lexington's Transylvania University became the Commonwealth of Kentucky's first institution for higher education in 1780.  Forging through the Appalachian wilderness to create the school in the Transylvania Colony of western Virginia, naturally the school's athletic teams have been known as the Pioneers. Looking to shake things up, the school announced earlier today that they'd like to make an animal mascot to represent the Pioneers.
In honor of that Pioneer spirit, Transylvania Athletics is introducing a new mascot–an animal that has close ties to the pioneer nickname but more importantly exemplifies what being a Transylvania Pioneer really means. As part of our steadfast commitment to diversity and inclusion, we want our mascot to be a symbol of strength and pride that unifies Pioneers from all backgrounds and generations. And we need your help!
People were not happy about the two choices -- Cassius the horse and Boone the Wolf. https://twitter.com/JHawk42/status/699303732610207744 https://twitter.com/MESCCS/status/699241578104229888 https://twitter.com/BWallaceKY/status/699338162204712964 https://twitter.com/GroupTravlBrian/status/699344573726908416 In fact, there was so much outrage that #Neither became a third option for "Mascot Madness," and they're re-counting the vote.  If you'd like to cast your vote, click here, or if you want them to bring back Peppy Pioneer, voice your grievances on social media accordingly. peppypioneer
