There's a tree growing inside New Mexico State's football stadium
Signs things might not be going well for your football program: trees are growing wild in the stands of your empty stadium. That’s exactly what’s happening at New Mexico State.
In the upper deck of Aggie Memorial Stadium you will find a palm tree standing almost two feet tall. The sapling sprouted through the west end of the stands unabated. Built in 1978, the stadium can hold around 30,000 people when full, a recent rarity for the program in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Some might consider it embarrassing. Instead of being laughed at, the New Mexico State administration is laughing with the joke. The NMSU athletics director poked fun at it in the most peculiar way possible.
Deputy athletic director Braun Cartwright did not think it was so funny. He told the local ABC affiliate, KVIA, “It might be funny. At the same time, it’s a little frustrating for the fans that are sitting in that area that are having to deal with the palm tree.”

Fans, sitting in stands? Hilarious joke. What will those crazy administrators think of next? A cut down your own Christmas tree promotion?!?!
New Mexico State is 1-9. An independent program without the financial backing of a conference, head coach Doug Martin isn’t even wearing Aggie gear on the sidelines. Now they have plants growing all willy nilly through their stadium. It’s a tough time for the Aggies to come to Kroger Field to play Kentucky.
