These are the eight teams that can win it all, according to KenPom history
In all but one season since 2002, the NCAA national champion has come from an exclusive group: teams that finished the regular season ranked in the top 20 in both offensive and defensive efficiency, according to the KenPom ratings. KenPom began tracking efficiency in 2002 and only the 2013-14 UConn team (#TooSoon) has been the exception so far. Every other champion was top 20 in both categories.
This year’s group includes eight contenders, one of which is Kentucky, so that’s good:
Virginia
Gonzaga
Duke
Michigan St
North Carolina
Michigan
Kentucky
Houston
Houston makes a surprise appearance on the list; everyone else isn’t much of a surprise. Could the Cougars pull it off?
Obviously not because Kentucky is going to win it.
