Keeneland opens next weekend just in time for the LSU crowd to descend upon Lexington for Kentucky Football’s first home game against the Tigers since 2007. You remember that one.
If you’re one of the many ambitious fans attempting the Saturday doubleheader or excited to be there for opening day on Friday, there are things you should know before you go. I am now going to tell you those things because I want you to live your best Keeneland life this fall meet—and to be completely candid, I’ve heard some folks are not very happy with me right now for things I said on today’s show.
So let’s get that cleared up. I don’t like having any friction with the most magical place on Earth.
GA admission will be limited
As I was saying on KSR, capacity will be limited this fall. I said 7,000 on the show and Keeneland goers were quick to panic, and rightfully so. The 7,000 cap is on general admission tickets and I did not make that clear. Hand up. My bad.
With the other premium tickets and boujee areas I’m never allowed in (except for when I wore a bowtie to work there in college), Keeneland still expects to have an electric environment for the first full-speed fall meet in two years. They hope to reach the 20,000+ from pre-pandemic life.

All General Admission, Reserved Seat and Dining Tickets must be pre-purchased
You’ll need to go to Keeneland.com or use the Keeneland Race Day app to grab your tickets ahead of time. They are streamlining admission and cutting out the cash transactions at the gate for the safety of fans and their employees.
So if you’re going, I’d go ahead and do that now.
Keep checking the website
In the wise words of Ryan Lemond, just check the website. Keeneland anticipates last-minute cancelations and changes of heart, so tickets may come available in the case of a sellout. Returns can be made up until 48 hours prior to the event. Ticket availability will be continuously updated.
Tailgating on The Hill is back
The Hill is back for Fall 2021 with tailgating on Fridays and Saturdays. Fans can watch the action and place bets in the comfort of their own tailgate surrounded by food trucks and live music.
No ticket or reservation is required for The Hill, only your best outfit for the ‘Gram and a positive attitude. However, tailgating packages are available for purchase if you want someone else to do the setup and takedown.
That pretty much sums up the need-to-know on getting there. You can visit Keeneland’s website for more details.
Be sure to buy up those tickets before the LSU fans get them.
See you there.
