This is how Vince Marrow told Kentucky he was leaving for Louisville

How did Vince Marrow tell the University of Kentucky he was leaving for Louisville? By being told to hand the keys over.

Through a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request, WKYT obtained the former UK associate head coach’s resignation to the school — a text message sent to UK Deputy Athletics Director Marc Hill. In fact, it was a response to Hill after he asked Marrow to return all of his belongings back to the school.

Car, devices, keys, everything.

“Let me know when we can chat about moving on,” Hill told Marrow. “Car, any devices and keys, etc. All the things.”

“K,” Marrow responded, before adding a follow-up text 37 minutes later that read, “Hey Mark today is my last day at UK. Thanks for everything.”

“Thanks,” Hill said back. “Let me know when you want to get your ford expedition to my house.”

The text exchange came on Thursday, June 12 — the same day the University of Louisville announced Marrow as the program’s next Executive Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting.

ESPN reported the deal as “official” at 9:31 a.m. ET with a complete statement from the new UL staffer to follow.

“I am incredibly excited to work with Jeff Brohm and the University of Louisville football program!” Marrow said. “Jeff and I have known each other for over 25 years, I have always admired and respected him and the Brohm family. I also love the state of Kentucky, this has become my home. The opportunity to take on this new and exciting role, in the state where I have so many incredible relationships, was something that I couldn’t pass up.

“I also want to thank the University of Kentucky, Mark Stoops, the administration and the fans. I have made lifelong friendships during my time at UK, and I have every desire to keep those relationships. That is one of the reasons I wanted to stay in this state. My hope is that I left the Kentucky football program in a better position than when we started, I will always be grateful for my time there.

“Ultimately, my goal at the University of Louisville is to win a national championship. I am very confident that we can accomplish that goal and I can’t wait to get started!”

ESPN first broke the news of Marrow’s departure on June 9.

Since the FOIA request reveal by WKYT, the former Kentucky assistant released a follow-up statement saying he had told his bosses and administration privately he was leaving for Louisville, but was told he needed a formal resignation. That’s when the exchange with Marc Hill came.

“I spoke to my boss as well as other administrators and it very clear that i was leaving. I was told several days later that i needed to resign,” he wrote on social media. “Mark hill asked me to send a text message saying today was my last day. Thanks for opportunity and God bless.”
