This Kentucky Football cookout video is the July 4th content we need

It’s July 4th week and it’s a big one for the Kentucky Football program, which could add several players to its 2025 recruiting class, including four-star defensive lineman Javeon Campbell and four-star cornerback Dawayne Galloway. Kentucky seems to be in good shape with both, but if Campbell, Galloway, and any other targets need further reason to pick the Cats, I present this video of a recent team cookout that dropped on Saturday.

As readers of KSR, you know that Kentucky Football cookouts are the stuff of legend. Each week, the team is treated to an array of grilled meats, decadent sides, and, on special occasions, treats from an ice cream truck. Instead of the typical video of sizzling steaks and yard games, the Kentucky Sports Video crew shook things up, giving senior offensive lineman Marques Cox the mic to interview his teammates. Well, strike that. Instead of a typical stick mic, Cox asks his questions with a steel spatula with a mic clipped on the end, the first indicator of the fun to come.

For three-and-a-half minutes, Cox roams the grounds around the Joe Craft Football Training Facility talking to his teammates about their food choices. Some highlights:

— Cox hitting Beau Allen in the face with his microphone

— All of Cox’s singing (“Krusty Krab pizza is the pizza,” the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive”)

— The long cut of Octavious Oxendine with ice cream in his beard

— Zion Childress’ only taco toppings being lettuce and salsa. As Cox says, “How you got no cheese on your tacos? You’ve got to be lactose or something.”

— Chip Trayanum’s healthy dessert choice of rainbow ice and granola

— Cox giving freshman offensive lineman Aba Selm grief for not knowing he could get a second serving of mac and cheese. “We just heard him being fat. That’s what we just heard.”

Is this post a stretch? Probably. But it’s July 4th week and this is the content we need. (And don’t worry; they’re working all that food off in summer workouts.)
