Throw Arizona State into the equation for Thon Maker, joining Kentucky, Kansas and Indiana on Maker's short list of schools. New Arizona State assistant coach Brian Merritt, a friend of Maker's mentor, Ed Smith, has the Sun Devils in play with the three longtime contenders.

Smith told Evan Daniels.
It's now looking like Maker
will play college basketball, though not as soon as he would like. Smith said the core classes are out of the way but there is still a lot of work to be done before Maker can reclassify.
"
It’s shaping up like it’s going to be mid-year,” said Smith. "“If we can get a mid-year situation that’s good for him and he can walk in then we’ll go with a mid-year situation.”
“Just to clarify, the Europe and pro route is not something we are considering.”
