On Friday evening at Churchill Downs on a wet and sloppy track, Thorpedo Anna brought home one of the biggest titles in thoroughbred racing claiming the 150th Kentucky Oaks crown. The No. 5 horse was in control from the start.

After getting out of the gates hot and quickly taking the lead, Thorpedo Anna saw herself even at the beginning of the stretch run but then turned on the jets. The three-year-old filly hit the gas and left no doubt winning by over four lengths in a stacked race with a load of talented thoroughbreds.

Trainer Kenny McPeek, jockey Brian Hernandez, owners Brookdale Racing, Mark Edwards, Judy Hicks, and Magdalena Racing brought home the gold for the Grade I stakes race that covers 1 1/8 miles. The purse for this edition of the Oaks race was $1.5 million.

In the betting department, it was a race won by favorites. Thorpedo Anna ($10.98 | $6.06 | $4.36) went off the board at 4/1. Just F Y I (7/2) was another favorite ($5.06 | $3.98) and finished second. Regulatory Risk (29/1) helped juice up some of the exotics with a place finish.

The $2 exact paid $38.20, the $2. The $1 trifecta paid $897.16. The $1 superfecta paid 4,275.21. Those cashing tickets were leaving Churchill Downs happy on Friday. The party will get rolling again early in the morning on Saturday for the 150th Kentucky Derby. One of the biggest days in the Bluegrass State will culminate with the Run for the Roses.
