Throwback Thursday: An Improbable Walk-Off Win at Missouri

There were many incredible memories made during the 2018 Kentucky football season.

Snapping The Streak in The Swamp brought out all of the emotions. Benny Snell’s record-breaking touchdown in the Citrus Bowl provided a happy ending that you typically only find in a movie script. There were many, many more wonderful memories, but nothing was more surprising than Kentucky’s win at Missouri.

Entering the game, fans called for Terry Wilson to be benched. The offense moved the ball, but failed to produce points with Wilson under center. Mark Stoops rolled out Gunnar Hoak and Danny Clark, neither of which did any better. Trailing 14-3 with five minutes to play, all of the BBN’s hope was lost, except on the UK sideline.

Lynn Bowden entered himself into the game as Kentucky’s punt returner and the rest is history.

I’m still not sure what quote from the UK Sports Network broadcast is better: Tom Leach’s, “New Life for the Wildcats!” or Jeff Piecoro’s, “I didn’t need a signal!”

I have one gripe with the final play — they should have ran it to the other side of the field. I was standing right at the pylon in front of the UK cheering section. Instead, Wilson threw it to C.J. Conrad on the other side of the field. I still found a way to make an awkward cameo in the middle of the chaotic celebration.

The adrenaline was flowing following the game. Mark Stoops crowd-surfed, then called into the KSR Postgame Show and dropped more than one curse word. Do yourself a favor and relive the entire postgame show from a magnificent comeback that will not soon be forgotten.
