Today is not a fun day to be a Tennessee Titans fan.

As you probably know, the Titans have been dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak, with 22 positive tests since Sept. 24. So far, the outbreak has resulted in the postponement of the Titans’ game vs. the Steelers on Oct. 4 and, potentially, the postponement or forfeiture of this Sunday’s game against the Bills. That sucks, but according to reports today, things may get much, much worse.

This afternoon, Paul Kuharsky broke the news that on Sept. 30 — one day after the Titans had to close the practice facility due to COVID — a group of Titans players, including quarterback Ryan Tannehill, went against league protocols and organized a workout at Montgomery Bell Academy, a private school in Nashville; for that, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio is reporting that the Titans could face “historic” punishment.

Given the news that the team apparently gathered to practice last week after expressly being told not to do so, the Titans could be facing a consequence the likes of which the NFL has never seen.

There’s buzz in league circles of possible “historic” punishment for the Titans given the various violations.

Kuharsky also tweeted that a source informed him that on Sept. 30, a group of Titans defensive backs worked out at Belmont:

As you might imagine, Titans Twitter is all up in arms, with players and fans attacking Kuharsky for doing his job:

Great. Just great. Kentucky, please beat Mississippi State on Saturday so Drew and I can have some football to be happy about, okay?
