Today on KSR: Hey, it's Tyler Ulis!

by:Nick Roush07/13/19

John Calipari and Tyler Ulis, what a combo.

The former UK point guard was in North Augusta, Georgia Friday evening, checking out the latest crop of prep stars and kicking it with his former coach. What did they discuss courtside? I’d like to think Calipari is telling Ulis that he’s put in a good word for a couple of NBA teams, but I’m sure it’s much more mundane, like, “Whatever you do, don’t get the popcorn. It’s way too salty.”

Coach Cal ran into another former UK point guard too, Eric Bledsoe.

Ulis and Bledsoe’s sideline soirée with Coach Cal wasn’t the most newsworthy moment from Friday at the Peach Jam.

Dante Talks Reclassification

Physically, Dante knows he’s prepared to immediately take his game to the next level. The classroom is the only thing holding him back. Dante told KSR he still has to finish an online class to become academically eligible. Kentucky is waiting with open arms.

“It doesn’t matter [when I come], they say whenever I want, whenever I want to come, they’d like to have me,” he said.

Tennessee and Oregon are also in the mix for the 6-11 center who’s averaging 18.7 points (74% shooting and 67% from the free throw line), 13.0 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game at the Peach Jam. See everything Dante had to say to KSR’s Jack Pilgrim.

Today is the final full day of basketball at the Peach Jam. Dante is one of a few players still alive in the tournament, with quarterfinal action beginning at noon.

  • MOKAN Elite (Dante) vs. NY Renaissance (Jonathan Kuminga)
  • Texas Titans (Cade Cunningham) vs. Team WhyNot (Mark Stoops Jalen Green)
  • AOT (B.J. Boston, Sharife Cooper) vs. Boo Williams
  • Indy Heat vs. Houston Hoops

NBA Summer League

The action in Las Vegas has almost concluded. A few Wildcats are taking the court today.

  • 4:30: Grizzlies vs. Celtics (Aaron Harrison) on ESPN
  • 6:00: Knicks (Kevin Knox) vs. Wizards on NBATV
  • 6:30: Pelicans vs. Heat (Tyler Herro) on ESPN
  • 10:00: Nuggets (Jarred Vanderbilt) vs. Rockets on NBATV

Upset of the Century

While most may have watched the 2019 Espy’s, you probably missed The Takies. The prestigious summer awards show presented by Pardon My Take recruited Scranton’s Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration, to unveil the winner of the “Calipari of the Year.” You will not believe who took home the crown.

Forecastle Continues

The Louisville Waterfront is getting rowdy this afternoon. After a beautiful night one, Forecastle Festival rolls along today featuring music from Maggie Rogers, Moon Taxi, Midland, Playboi Carti, Israel Nash and Anderson Paak. To steal a line from the great Bart Scott, “Can’t Wait.” Stay hydrated, friends.

Angels’ Incredible No-Hitter

“You can’t make this stuff up.” Mike Trout is correct.

Playing in their first home game since pitcher Tyler Skaggs passed away, every Los Angeles Angel wore Skaggs’ No. 45. In the first inning they scored seven runs. They finished with 13. His birthday is 7/13. The Angels’ Taylor Cole and Felix Pena did not surrender a hit, the 13th combined no-hitter in MLB history. After the game, each Angel honored their fallen teammate by placing their No. 45s on the pitcher’s mound. Sports.
