Today On KSR: We Still Own Louisville
Good morning folks, I hope you all are taking this Sunday to rest up for your rambunctious New Year’s Eve activities tomorrow night while enjoying one of the best times of the year to be a sports fan. While many people refer to March Madness or the sports equinox in October, New Year’s should get it’s love too. With the perfect mix of College basketball, NBA, NFL, Bowl season, and of course the New Year’s Six, all of which I will cover in this post, it’s a great time to be a sports fan. Let’s get started.
We Still Own Louisville
What a better way to get the New Year’s sports week started than whipping Louisville in basketball EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. At this point, it’s become the perfect holiday tradition. While transitioning from the chaotic Christmas shopping and opening gifts to ringing in the new year, we always have the Kentucky Louisville game in the middle. Even if you got coal for Christmas, you could bank on Kentucky to save the Holiday season for you with their 10th victory out 11 dating back to 2010.
Trying to get a head-start on the rebuilding process, Chris Mack has admittedly done a relatively good job at Louisville this season. Enough to at least make us think we could be in for a tight game in the pre-game, but even with a new coach trying to bring a new culture to Derby City, Swaggy Cal and the Cats still own the Cards. Tyler Herro has Finally found his groove as he took home MVP honors, Ashton Hagans didn’t fall off from his spectacular defensive performance against North Carolina, and it feels like the swagger may back in Kentuck basketball, just guessing by Coach Cal’s comments in the post game and the players’ reaction on social media.
There’s just something about the looseness at which Kentucky beats Louisville every year that prepares us for conference play, and I’m on board.
Three things are certain in life: Death, Taxes, and Kentucky beats Louisville in basketball.
CFP National Semifinals
The College Football National Championship is set. Alabama and Clemson will face off for the fourth straight year to determine a National Champion. Clemson Embarrassed Notre Dame 30-3 and despite Oklahoma’s valiant attempt at a 2nd half come back to Alabama that fell two possessions short, the National Semi-finals of the college football Playoffs were lackluster at best.
It is clear, Alabama and Clemson are just in a class of their own, as evidence of the meeting in the College Football Playoff for the fourth straight season. Three of which have been in National Championship. In the three games prior, Alabama currently holds the edge on Clemson, two games to one.
In my opinion, the only team that could compete with either of these teams is Georgia. I’ll take a two-loss Dawgs over an undefeated Notre Dame team every time, but that’s neither here nor there.
Five things are certain in Life: Death, Taxes, Kentucky Beats Louisville in basketball, Notre Dame embarrasses themselves in a big bowl game and Alabama vs. Clemson.
NFL SUNDAY
With a tear in my eye, I present the final game regular season game slate for the NFL.
Benny Snell has a new biggest fan
Benny Snell has been on trend lately of taking outrageous fan videos from the internet and reposting them to his Instagram account. Each one better than the last, but this time, it looks like this dude drank a gallon of pre-workout before recording this one.
David Bouvier wants a washing Machine??
As apart of going to a Bowl game, the players are treated to a shopping spree at Best Buy, courtesy of the good folks at the VBRO Citrus Bowl. In this video from KYWildcatsTV, the Cats looked more like some Kids in Candy Store. Benny Snell wants virtual Reality, Terry Wilson wants some new Beats, and David Bouvier wants a …Washing Machine?
Decisions, decisions. Thank you, @citrusbowl!#GetUp pic.twitter.com/y2TSFZbh23

A reasonable purchase, but I’m not Exactly Sure how that could get back to Lexington, Bouv.

UK Hoops Dominate Once Again
The Women’s Basketball team has been dominant this season and Yesterday’s game was no different. Backed by Morris’s 17 points, the Cats breezed past Sacred Heart 71-43. Sitting at 13-1 and blowing out nearly every opponent, Maci Morris, and Freshman guard Rhyne Howard have led the Wildcats to an incredible tear through their out of conference schedule.
UK Hoops begins conference play January 3rd against Vanderbilt at 7 pm in Memorial Collesium.
Jamal Murray Goes for 46 Against Devin Booker
If Kentucky’s win over Louisville wasn’t enough UK basketball mojo for you, two former high-scoring Cats battled it out last night in the NBA. Jamal Murray and Devin Booker went toe-to-toe last night, and as two of the best shooters in Kentucky history, UK fans were in for a treat that wouldn’t disappoint.
Murray got the better of the two this time as he went for a Career second best 46 points, going NINE FOR 11 FROM BEHIND THE ARC in the Nuggets victory over the Suns. This was on the heels of a 31-point performance for Murray, as he has helped lead the Nuggets to the best record in the Western Conference.
Booker got his as well, going for 27 points and eight assists, which set a franchise record for most consecutive games with at least 23 points and eight assists. A very Particular record, but a record nonetheless.
The SEC Dominates the B1G Ten Bowl Season
After Auburn’s beatdown on Purdue in the Music City Bowl, there was almost no way the SEC could embarrass the Big 10 Anymore, right? Well, folks, in the SEC it just means more, and that was evident by Florida’s 41-15 shellacking of one-time Playoff contender Michigan.
Even though Kentucky deserved the spot over Flordia in the Peach Bowl, at least Florida came through with a dominating performance over the fighting Jim Harboroughs extending the SEC’s Bowl Record against the Big Ten to 2-0 with an average margin of victory of 37.5.
Now, it’s Kentucky’s turn to kick some Big Ten ass on New Year’s Day.
Go Cats.
