Today on KSR: What's Wandale going to do?

Happy Wednesday, KSR readers! I hope your week is flying by and you’ve had a nice start to your morning. If things are off to a rocky start, how about some morning notes to cheer you up?

Let’s get to it.

Wandale Robinson:

What a wild Tuesday afternoon and evening it was for the BBN. Reports surfaced around 3 p.m. on Tuesday that not only was Wandale Robinson considering a flip, but in the next day or two he would decommit from UK and commit to Nebraska. Things would happen fast, reports said.

Well, it didn’t happen Tuesday and it certainly got the attention of UK’s staff. There will be more visits over the coming days from UK but despite yesterday Robinson saying he would enroll at UK early and was recruiting other players to join him, it seems clear there’s still work to be done.

Signing day is in two weeks. Buckle up, buckeroos.

Big Dog in Louisville:

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Marrow was in Louisville with Ballard star Jared Casey announcing on Thursday. All signs point towards UK for the four-star linebacker.

But let’s hope that Marrow stopped by Frankfort on the way back.

Kahlil Whitney is still good at basketball:

Remember, he will be signing in the spring and there’s nothing to fear. Whitney will be a Cat.

We’ll hear from UK volleyball:

UK coach Craig Skinner and select players will meet with the media today to discuss their upcoming Sweet 16 match against powerhouse Nebraska in Minneapolis. If the Cats can pull off the upset they will take on Oregon or host Minnesota in the Elite Eight.

The Cats take on the Huskers on Friday at 2 p.m. on ESPNU.

Winner gets Wandale?

And Matthew Mitchell:

The 8-0 Wildcats are having a surprising start to their season but with momentum riding high it’s a huge week/weekend for No. 19 Kentucky. Mitchell will preview UK’s game against Rhode Island on Thursday and after that game the Cats will travel to Louisville on Sunday to take on No. 5 UofL.

If this time next week we’re talking about UK being 10-0 then Kentucky should be a top 10 team and Matthew Mitchell should be an early candidate for coach of the year.

Regardless, the turnaround has been great and the Cats should be a threat in the SEC this season. After what happened a couple years ago I didn’t think UK would be back in the top 25 for years.

Alabama basketball stinks:

The Tide moved to 5-3 on the season after losing to Georgia State last night. Alabama has now lost to Northeastern, UCF and Georgia State. Not great, Bob!

Still wish John Petty would have picked Kentucky. He finished with just six points and four rebounds tonight.

Frederic Scott Satterfield met the UofL media:

Did you miss what Satterfield said at his introductory press conference? We have you covered. And yes, UK was mentioned.

Dontaie Allen had another big game:

The UK signee remains so hot right now. Playing just three quarters he had 34 points and 13 rebounds in Pendleton County’s 82-47 win against Nicholas County on Tuesday.

The moves the average to 41 points and 16.5 rebounds per game and that includes two 50+ point performances already. It’s still the first week of December and he’s just getting started.

Bump that man up in the rankings.

Also, UK commit Tyrese Maxey had 38 points in a loss. Scoring shouldn’t be an issue for the Cats next season.

Andrew Harrison is back in the NBA:

Andrew will join Anthony Davis and former teammate Julius Randle in the Big Easy. He had his moments at Memphis in previous seasons but let’s hope he can be more consistent in New Orleans and turn that two-way deal into a long-term NBA deal.

I always think Andrew is one of the more underrated players in the Calipari era. Helped lead UK to back-to-back Final Fours as the starting point guard.

Udoka hurt:

Kansas was only up four midway through the second half against Wofford but the Jayhawks used a 30-9 run to win by 25. But it was a costly win. Junior Udoka Azubuike suffered a high-ankle sprain and is out indefinitely. That’s a serious injury and I wouldn’t be surprised if a month or two goes by and he’s still out. That may be of interest to UK fans because the Jayhawks travel to Rupp the last weekend of January.

Seton Hall back in the win column:

Seton Hall led the majority of the game against UofL on Saturday but fell short, however, the Pirates did win a tuneup game against New Hampshire 77-57 last night. Next up is UK in New York on Saturday. We’ll preview Seton Hall later this week. UK should win, but the Pirates aren’t a pushover.

Heavyweight:

Looking for a new podcast? Try Heavyweight. (CLICK HERE TO LISTEN). It’s funny but serious, touching on life issues/regrets that people have faced over the years. The host, Jonathan Goldstein, tries to look into the past to solve listener’s issues, but like KSR he does it in a pretty ridiculous manner.

I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy it.

Also, my podcast, Hardly Committed, is dropping today. That’s pretty good, too.
