Today on KSR: Who will Kentucky play in Las Vegas?

The Kentucky men’s basketball team has arrived in Las Vegas, officially touching down late Thursday evening for its appearance in the annual CBS Sports Classic. It’s an event the Wildcats have been a part of since 2014.
Kentucky itself is good to go, no issues whatsoever. The team’s opponent? That remains to be seen. In fact, we don’t even officially know who UK’s opponent will be just one day before tip-off.
Ohio State withdrew from the event Thursday afternoon after the Buckeyes saw multiple positive COVID-19 results within the program. Almost immediately, though, CBS Sports Classic officials began working with UK Athletics to find a new opponent on short notice to ensure the event would not be canceled entirely.
While plans are not final, a few potential options have emerged for the Wildcats since the initial cancellation. Teams such as UNLV, Texas and Rick Pitino’s Iona have all been discussed, but the current expectation is that North Carolina will be the replacement matchup. Both Terry Meiners of 840 WHAS and Nicole Hutchison of Fox 56 reported the possibility, with KSR’s own Matt Jones later reporting that the “current plan” is to take on the Tar Heels in Las Vegas.
The only issue? Though UCLA’s most recent game was canceled due to COVID-19, the Bruins have not yet pulled out of their matchup against the Tar Heels. Head coach Mick Cronin entered health and safety protocols prior to UCLA’s matchup against Alabama State on Wednesday, thus sparking the cancellation less than an hour before tip. The school, though, confirmed every player on the roster was available to play and there have been no reports of added positive cases since.
You can’t force a team out of its own game if school officials and event coordinators deem them eligible to play. So until then, you can’t assume North Carolina will be available as a replacement.
Will scheduling adjustments pave the path for a blue blood matchup between Kentucky and North Carolina? Or will UK be forced to find a last-minute backup option? We should find out at some point today.
Kiyaunta Goodwin is signed, sealed and delivered
Mark Stoops and the Kentucky coaching staff reeled in their big fish on Thursday, officially signing the nation’s No. 1 offensive tackle in Kiyaunta Goodwin. The school’s five-year relationship was enough to hold on late, beating the likes of Michigan State, Alabama, Florida State, Michigan and Texas A&M for the five-star standout.

“We’ve known him for a long time, built strong relationships with him and the people close to him,” Stoops said Thursday. “(He’s) a terrific young man, unbelievable football player and we’re excited to add them to our program.”
Goodwin was the last of 22 announced signees, and Stoops made sure to drag out his press conference as long as he could so he could discuss just how important the five-star lineman was to the class. After talking and checking his phone for 45 minutes, Stoops was finally given the go-ahead from compliance to discuss Goodwin’s addition after his letter of intent was reviewed and approved.
“It’s very gratifying. It’s a lot of hard work, a lot of years,” Stoops said.

Wisconsin beats another undefeated team from Kentucky in the Final Four
The Wisconsin Badgers took down yet another undefeated team during postseason play, this time in the Louisville Cardinals. Undefeated going into the Final Four, the one-seed UofL volleyball team had dreams of perfection, and they were just two wins away from making that happen.
The four-seed Badgers had other plans, though, taking down the Cardinals in five sets (25-23, 15-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-9) to crush their hopes and dreams on volleyball’s biggest stage.
Wisconsin will take on Nebraska in the title game on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
