Kentucky transfer target Tony Johnson commits to Miami
Kentucky is in the market for wide receiver help in the spring transfer portal market. That became more true when commit Tru Edwards signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Miami transfer Tony Johnson emerged as a target last week. The Big 12 transfer is officially off the board.
Johnson will spend the 2025 season with Keelan Marion at Miami.
The Central Florida native started his career at Florida Atlantic as a walk-on and eventually become one of the best players for the Owls when he recorded 37 receptions for 411 yards and four touchdowns in the American Athletic Conference in 2023. Tony Johnson transferred to Cincinnati in 2024 and posted 48 receptions for 449 yards and six touchdowns. Now the veteran will head to Coral Gables to catch passes from Georgia transfer Carson Beck in Shannon Dawson‘s spread offense.
Kentucky will need to look for wideout elsewhere. Jackson State wide receiver Isaiah Spencer was just in Lexington for his official visit and could be someone the Cats make a big push for now with Johnson off the board.
