Florida State is targeting Nebraska defensive coordinator Tony White
Kentucky defensive coordinator Brad White has been linked as a top candidate for the open defensive coordinator position at Florida State for weeks. But the Seminoles appear to have their search locked in on another power conference coordinator.
Mike Norvell locked up UCF head coach Gus Malzahn to become the next play-caller in Tallahassee over the weekend. Now the Florida State head coach appears ready to lock up his defensive coordinator search. Nebraska assistant Tony White is the top candidate for the Seminoles.
Tony White, 45, is a UCLA alum who cut his teeth working for Rocky Long at San Diego State and specializing in the 3-3-5 defense. White became Arizona State’s defensive coordinator in 2019 working for head coach Herm Edwards. From there, White moved to Syracuse where he called plays for three years under head coach Dino Babers before joining Nebraska in 2022. White led the Huskers to a top-10 points per drive finish in 2023.
Husker Online’s Sean Callahan that White is expected to be hired by Florida State. That takes away a potential landing spot for Kentucky defensive coordinator Brad White.
