Trae Young considering an early decision
The plan for Trae Young has long been to decide and commit in the spring, once he has a better idea of how the pieces will fall at the schools he is considering (So, what happens at Kentucky). However, Evan Daniels is now hearing Young could commit during the early period.
An early decision could go either way for Kentucky. First, for the optimistic crowd, it could mean he wants to get dibs on John Calipari’s next point guard spot before Quade Green, who announced yesterday he will announce his decision on November 19. And let’s be real here, after seeing De’Aaron Fox run the floor, it’s pretty clear Fox will be gone next year. No need to wait it out to see if he stays or goes.

But it could also be the case that Young knows in his heart he will stay home at Oklahoma and wants to get it out of the way to: a) play his senior year in Norman as a future Sooner; and b) give John Calipari a heads up so Cal’s not scrambling for a second-tier option in the spring. Cal’s all-in on Young and Green, and we may know by the end of the month if he’ll get one of them or go back to the drawing board.
My guess, based completely on my UK bias, is that Young wants to commit to push Green toward Syracuse. I’ve always thought Kentucky will eventually be the pick and he’s just milking the process of its benefits, as he should, but with Green ready to make his decision, Young wants to come forward and claim his spot in Lexington. Again, that’s a complete guess as I know nothing about this new news of a possible fall commitment.
Either way, get in here.
