Transfer Portal Bio Blast: Kendrick Law
The winter transfer portal window officially opened last week. We’ve seen some heavy player movement and are expecting some more. Teams are working rapidly to get targets on campus for visits over the next few weeks to close these fast-paced recruitments.
Kentucky wrapped up one of those visitors on Friday. Alabama transfer Kendrick Law is a Cat.
The SEC transfer becomes the second wide receiver to join Kentucky’s transfer portal class. What is Bush Hamdan‘s offense getting in Law? KSR’s Bio Blast takes a closer look at the former blue-chip recruit.
Former top-100 recruit
Kendrick Law was a big-time recruit in the 2022 high school cycle out of Shreveport (La.) Captain Shreve. A top-five player in Louisiana, Law picked Alabama over Florida State and LSU.
The wideout played both sides of the ball on offense but was also a standout track performer. Law placed second with a 10.48 100 meters as a junior at the Louisiana 5A state meet in 2021. Posted additional 100 Law also clocked a 22.05 200 meters and long jumped over 22 feet.
The high four-star prospect was one of the best athletes in the 2022 cycle and joined an Alabama recruiting class that included Aaron Anderson, Isaiah Bond, and Kobe Prentice.
Rotational receiver for three seasons in Tuscaloosa
Kendrick Law played Nick Saban for two years and Kalen DeBoer for two seasons at Alabama. The wide receiver also has played for three different offensive coordinators. Law has seen a lot of change, but his role mostly remained the same for the Crimson Tide.
Kentucky’s most recent transfer addition has played at least 190 snaps in each season and never more than 254 snaps. Law has somewhere between 8-15 receptions each season.

Year | Snaps | Stats |
2022 | 198 | 8 receptions (12 targets) for 103 yards |
2023 | 233 | 15 receptions (18 targets) for 135 yards |
2024 | 254 | 10 receptions (14 targets) for 105 yards |
Law also received eight carries as a junior. The receiver was the team’s primary kick returner as a sophomore. Only two wideouts on the Bama roster played more than Law this season, but the veteran did not receive a heavy touch volume. Law brought value to the offense in other areas.
The transfer will be looking for that in 2025 as he brings experience and positional versatility to Kentucky having spent time in the slot and outside.
Luckett’s scouting notebook
Kendrick Law was a valuable piece of the Alabama offense in 2024 and a player that Kalen DeBoer and offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan asked to do the dirty work. The transfer is looking for a bigger role in an offense in 2025 and should receive that in his final eligibility.
Kentucky had a big need for a slot receiver, and Law should help fill that void. This is my scouting write-up on the SEC transfer.
Kendrick Law (5-11, 201) is a wideout with a rocked-up build. Has the look of a slot receiver but will need to sharpen his route-running technique. Most notably needs improvement getting in and out of breaks. Was a factor for the Tide in the jet sweep game and looks comfortable with the ball in his hands as runner. Shows some YAC creation out of the short passing game due to strength and ability to run through tackles. There is not a lot of wiggle in the open field. Owns absolute tenacity as a blocker and can bury defensive backs.
True slot receiver with a physical play style. Law can provide immediate value in the short passing game, but route-running must get better to become a true factor in the intermediate passing game. Should plug into the jet sweep role immediately in Kentucky’s offense and give Bush Hamdan a run-and-catch receiver who can consistently turn short passes into efficient gains.
