The NCAA Tournament is still ongoing, but the transfer portal waits for no one. With six outgoing seniors/graduates and one outgoing transfer, Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats will have to reload through the portal once again this offseason.

Kam Williams (Tulane) and Jaland Lowe (Pitt) are already on board. Who could be next?

Alabama’s Mouhamed Dioubate is one we’re keeping a close eye on. Kentucky is among the top contenders to land the 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward with two years of eligibility remaining. Dioubate, who entered his name into the transfer portal on Friday, came off the bench in all 37 games played for Nate Oats in 2024-25 but was an integral part of the Crimson Tide making an Elite 8 run for the second straight season.

On3 ranks Dioubate as the 37th-best prospect (and 5th-best small forward) to enter his name into the portal so far this offseason. In 16 minutes per game as a sophomore this past season, the New York native averaged 7.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists while shooting 61.7 percent from the field, 46.2 percent from three (12-26 overall), and 60.9 percent from the free throw line.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Kentucky portal target.

A top 100 high school recruit

Slotted just inside the class of 2023 Top 100 rankings (No. 99) by On3, Dioubate had plenty of big-name schools after him in high school. Suiting up for Putnam Science Academy (CT), he led the program to a National Prep Championship and was highly productive on the Nike EYBL circuit with the PSA Cardinals. Dioubate was named EYBL First-Team in 2022 after posting per-game averages of 13.6 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists. His 309 points scored around the rim were the most among any player on the EYBL circuit that year.

Dioubate was down to four finalists out of high school: Alabama, Maryland, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest. He ultimately chose the Crimson Tide where he filled a minimal role as a true freshman in 2023-24. Across 33 games played, Dioubate averaged 2.9 points and 2.4 rebounds on 47.4 percent shooting in just 7.8 minutes per outing as a rookie. His best performances came in SEC play against Mississippi State (14 points, 9 rebounds) and on the road against Kentucky (12 points, 2 rebounds). He averaged 8.1 minutes per contest in Alabama’s five NCAA Tournament games.

Thriving in his role at Alabama

Dioubate’s role increased as a sophomore in 2024-25. Playing for a national title contender, he did exactly what was asked of him off the bench. He finished the season much better than he started it too.

  • First 18 games of ’24-25 (13.7 MPG): 4.7 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 1.1 SPG, 1.0 APG, 0.7 BPG | 50 FG%, 27.3 3PT%, 68.3 FT%
  • Final 19 games of ’24-25 (18.1 MPG): 9.6 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 1.3 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.7 BPG | 67.6 FG%, 60 3PT%, 54.9 FT%

During those final 19 games, Dioubate finished in double-figures 10 times with five double-doubles. The lefty wasn’t regularly taking three-pointers, but his 9-15 mark over this span made him a threat from deep. He went for 18 points and 10 rebounds in the NCAA Tournament opener against Robert Morris. Kentucky fans will remember him posting 13 points and eight rebounds in the SEC Tournament against the Wildcats, just one game before he contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds against Florida. His best outing came in a win over Vanderbilt: 22 points and 10 rebounds on 8-9 shooting.

While productive in his role, it’s clear Dioubate is looking for more at his next stop. After Alabama was knocked out of the NCAA Tournament, he told the Tuscaloosa News “I know what I deserve” about a starting spot. Plenty of defensive upside mixed with his rebounding skills should get him that.

Advanced Stat Profile: Mouhamed Dioubate

A bit of a tweener at 6-foot-7, Dioubate uses his strength and athleticism to make up for a lack of a few inches in the frontcourt. He didn’t log enough minutes in 2024-25 to meet the requirement for national stat rankings, but if he had, his numbers would have been among some of the best in the country. Just looking at his numbers against SEC competition, he was incredibly effective in multiple areas despite limited playing time.

StatFinishSEC Ranking
Defensive Rebounding %22.75th
2-Point %66.25th
Fouls Drawn Per 40 Mins4.812th
Offensive Rebounding %10.8 16th
Steal %2.822nd

Dioubate is not someone you rely on to regularly go get a bucket. What he has proven to do at a high level though is rebound on both ends of the floor, play versatile defense, and be effective with the ball around the rim. 82 percent of his shot attempts came at the rim last season, which he made at a 63 percent clip.

Looking at Dioubate’s rebounding abilities, his defensive rebounding percentage of 22.7 would have ranked second on last season’s Kentucky team behind only Amari Williams. His offensive rebounding percentage of 10.8 would have ranked first. Some real playmaking chops and a good motor make him a threat in transition.
