If you’ve ever watched any holiday movie ever, you know that Christmas rarely goes according to plan. That even applies to college football players in the transfer portal.

Former Ball State cornerback Myles Norwood was expected to announce his decision on Dec. 25. Would it be Kentucky or South Carolina? We’re still left waiting.

“Due to unexpected family issues that arose today, I’ve decided to postpone my commitment,” he shared on social media. “My focus is on family right now, but I’ll be announcing soon. Thank you for your understanding and support during this challenging moment.”

Hopefully, those family issues aren’t too serious. Being around family around the holidays is what makes them special. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed that everything’s okay with Mr. Norwood.

The Skinny on Myles Norwood

A 6-foot-1, 183-pound redshirt senior, this cornerback is like many transfer portal prospects Kentucky recruited. He started his career in the power conference ranks at Iowa State. After failing to see the field for a few seasons, Norwood went down a level in play to receive more playing time. He initially planned to transfer to New Mexico State, but instead opted to play in the Midwest at Ball State.

In 2024, Norwood had 38 tackles, 2.0 TFLs, 10 pass break-ups, and a fumble recovery. He ranked sixth in the MAC in PBUs.

Originally from St. Louis, he played defensive back and quarterback at Trinity Catholic High School. He won state titles in football and track as a sophomore. The all-state track athlete won a state title in the triple jump and ranked nationally in the long jump, triple jump, and decathlon.

What are Kentucky’s chances?

South Carolina was perceived to be the favorite ahead of the decision, but the winds may be shifting back to Kentucky. The cornerback room is a little crowded, with 11 players competing for three spots. We’ll see if the Kentucky transfer portal class can grow to 15 in the near future.

“[I’m looking for] the best fit for me and where I see myself going in and making an immediate impact. I want to go somewhere that will change my life in 2025,” Norwood told KSR+. “I’m looking for a great fit with the scheme, the opportunity, the coaching staff, and the culture. Also, the development piece of it as well. Both schools have developed one-year transfers into the NFL.”
