Transfer Portal Diaries Day 2: Stacking Up Visitors
The transfer portal is a chaotic time for college football fans. Allow KSR to deliver your daily morning dose of Kentucky football transfer portal news in the most ridiculous manner possible.
Transfer Portal Slang
That’s right, everybody. Time to bring ’em out. It’s trippin time! That’s not a psychedelic reference. While the shorthand for an official visit in the media world is usually “OV,” many coaches and players shorten it to “trip” or “tripping.” Allow me to use it in a few sentences.
“Are they gonna trip Ahmad Hardy?”
“I’m not sure if he’s tripping this weekend.”
The More You Know.
Five Confirmed Kentucky Visitors
This list is growing. The KSR crew is currently efforting to confirm another offensive tackle visitor. HOLD!
Landyn Watson, Marshall LB
Chris Murray, Sam Houston State EDGE
Sam Greene, USC EDGE
Derek Simmons, Western Carolina OT
Reginald Hughes, Jacksonville State LB
A Trend with a Few Transfer Portal Targets
Four out of the five players have something in common, aside from the fact that they play defense. In previous years, most of Kentucky’s transfer portal recruits were in the portal for the first time. Most of these guys are looking for at least their third school.
Watson and Murray actually began their college careers together at TCU. Reginald Hughes’ career started at Ole Miss. They hit the G5 ranks, put up some numbers, and are now looking to climb back up to the Power Four. Derek Simmons is looking for his fourth school, beginning at D-II Tusculum before moving to Abilene Christian and Western Carolina.
Kentucky Offered a Cal WR
Nyziah Hunter had 40 receptions for 578 yards and 5 touchdowns last fall. Notre Dame, Nebraska, and Michigan State are also in the mix for the pass-catcher. The offer is a great excuse for me to share this masterpiece from the Calgorithm.
Like Michael Scott at the Dinner Party
It’s not necessarily a snip-snap, snip-snap, but Pete Nakos was busy keeping up with Eric Rivers. The FIU wide receiver who reported interest from 43 schools on the first day of the transfer portal window scheduled a visit to Virginia. He then decided to wait and visit Miami first, a campus located not too far from Pitbull Stadium, and rescheduled his trip to Virginia for next week. I got a feeling this is just the beginning of the twists and turns in this wide receiver’s recruitment.
Hey! Remember that Guy?
These players have been involved with Kentucky in some capacity previously and are back on the market. It’s not to say that Kentucky wants them, but a reminder of just how often players are making moves.

Ohio politicians get involved
Dekel Crowdus — The Lexington wide receiver caught 16 passes for 402 yards and four touchdowns last year at Hawaii. FAU has offered, which might be a smooth transition from the Big Island, at least much smoother than a move to Oxford, Ohio or Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Destin Wade — He left with his twin brother to find more playing time. Not surprisingly, the quarterback didn’t find it on the same team as Shedeur Sanders. Keaten is going to end up being pretty good for the Buffs though. An injury limited him to four games and a redshirt, but he was pretty impactful in that short window.
Cameron Calhoun — The Cincinnati cornerback initially committed to West Virginia, then he flipped to Cincinnati. It looked like he was going to flip to Kentucky when he decommitted after an official visit, but that would’ve been too predictable. He ultimately signed with Michigan, won a National Title, then transferred to Utah, and now he’s back in the transfer portal.
Dasan McCullough — Kentucky was in the mix for the talented safety when he entered the transfer portal from Indiana two seasons ago. He’s been good at Oklahoma. Don’t know if Kentucky is in the market for him now, but it’s worth mentioning because his Dad is a college football coach with a connection to Vince Marrow.
Howard Sampson — One of the offensive tackles Kentucky pursued during the last transfer portal cycle started in the first six games of the season for the Tar Heels.
