Lyon County has punched a ticket to the KHSAA UK Healthcare Boys Sweet 16, where the state’s top-ranked junior could break Kentucky‘s all-time scoring record inside Rupp Arena.

Four-star guard Travis Perry scored 33 points in a win vs. Hopkinsville to earn the Region 2 championship on Tuesday, the Lyons’ second straight title. Now with 4,317 career points, Perry is just 21 points away from breaking Kelly “King” Coleman’s all-time scoring record of 4,337 points for Kentucky boys high school basketball.

In the process, he also broke the Region 2 scoring record previously held by former Madisonville North star and Kentucky basketball standout Travis Ford.

The 6-foot-1 guard was named 2nd Region Player of the Year after the win while also earning All-2nd Region and 2nd Region All-Tournament honors.

Lyon County has now won 30 wins on the year and 16 straight to move to 30-5 overall. The Lyons will now head to Rupp Arena, taking the floor on Thursday, March 16 at 1:30 p.m. ET against Region 9 winner Newport, who advanced to its first Sweet 16 since 2010.

A realistic shot to break the all-time record on Kentucky’s biggest and brightest stage, history on the line. 21 points would do it. Win that one, and another high-profile matchup could be next, a battle of the state’s two most talented players.

Kentucky signee Reed Sheppard and the North Laurel Jaguars are set to take on defending state champion George Rogers Clark late Thursday evening at 8:30 p.m. ET. A win for both Perry and Sheppard would set up a head-to-head battle in the state quarterfinals on Friday night.

Elsewhere, Jasper Johnson — a top-100 prospect nationally and the No. 1 sophomore in Kentucky — is also in the field, with Woodford County defeating Martha Layne Collins to win the 8th Region title on Tuesday. The UK target finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Yellowjackets to its first region championship since 1986. They will take on Jeffersontown on Wednesday, March 15 at 11 a.m. ET.

One Kentucky signee, two other targets for the Wildcats, all three considered top-100 prospects in their respective classes. All competing for a state championship inside Rupp Arena next weekend.

Doesn’t get any better than that.
