Travis Perry Leads Lyon County to WGM Holiday Classic Championship Game
Travis Perry is the real deal.
Perry, the 2024 Kentucky men’s basketball commit, led Lyon County to the White, Greer & Maggard Holiday Classic championship game as he finished with 26 points, five rebounds, eight assists, and three steals during Friday’s semifinals. His performance was more than enough to power No. 3 Lyon County past No. 12 Frederick Douglass in the semis, 86-65.
As a result, the Lyons will now meet undefeated and No. 2-ranked Lexington Catholic for Saturday’s title. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m. EST and will be held at Lexington Catholic High School.
Slow start for both teams
Although Perry led his team in scoring on Friday, he struggled in the first half.
The 21-point victory was not a blowout until late into the second half when Perry and his teammates began to find their rhythm. Douglass did a good job of denying Perry throughout the game, but he was still able to do his thing inside and behind the arc.
After coming away with just three points in the first quarter, Perry got on a little hot streak in the second quarter. Although he went 0-2 from behind the arc early, the 6-foot-2 point guard got two of those threes back right before halftime to give his team the lead, taking 12 points of his own into the locker room.
There were spurts during the game in the second half where both teams were trading baskets back and forth. Coming out of halftime, Douglass was able to tie the game up at 39-39. However, Perry did not let it stay like that for long.

The Lyons ate Douglass up on the glass throughout the battle, which gave Perry more and more opportunities to show off his skills as both a passer and shooter. Lyon County outrebounded the Broncos by 20 (43-23) overall and by 17 (20-3) on the offensive glass. Perry’s eight assists were twice as many as the next closest player.
Not just a shooter…
Not only did Perry lead his team in points, but he also played the most as he finished with a little under 31 minutes. Even though the four-star commit is considered to be a knockdown shooter, he does not just stay planted in the corner waiting for the ball to come to him. Rather, Perry goes and finds the ball wherever it is to get his fellow teammates just as many touches.
Perry had plenty of help from teammates Jack Reddick and Brady Shoulders on Friday night. Reddick and Shoulders combined for 27 points and 15 rebounds in their team’s victory, and the two are important in making plays for Perry as they drew attention toward themselves, allowing Perry to find space and make his own plays.
We’ll see Perry back in action on Saturday afternoon with a midseason trophy on the line.
