Tre Mitchell's Top College Basketball Performances

Kentucky’s youthful 2023-24 basketball team added a much-needed veteran presence on Monday when Tre Mitchell announced he will be making the move from Morgantown to Kentucky. This offseason change is nothing new to Mitchell. Kentucky will be the 6-foot-9 forward’s fourth school in five years.
Before he ever suits up in Kentucky blue, let’s take a closer look at his top performances from throughout his extensive college career that started in the Atlantic 10 at UMass. A chameleon in the frontcourt, he’s been a superstar and a role player with a pension for scoring points.
2019-20: Freshman Campaign Ends with a Bang
Seeking a win to make the Minutemen .500 in A-10 play, Tre Mitchell brought his best to Senior Night in Amherst. The true freshman made 6-of-8 three-pointers to score a career-high 34 points. He also chipped in a dozen rebounds and four assists against Rhode Island, but UMass needed a little more from the big man. Fatts Russell had a couple of big buckets down the stretch to help the Rams pull away with a one-point win.
Also on the sideline for that game: Jacob Toppin. The future Cat logged 13 minutes and tallied four points in his final game at Rhode Island. Covid-19 canceled the college basketball season a week later.
2020-21: Tre Mitchell 30-Point Games Bookend Covid Season
The season started later than normal, but Tre Mitchell picked up right where he left off. Right after ending his freshman year with a 30-point game, he made 13-of-18 shots to score 31 points in the season opener against Northeastern. Less than a week later he set a new career-high with 37 points against La Salle. He ended the season by scoring 30 points in a loss to St. Louis in the A-10 Tournament.

2021-22: No. 7 Texas vs. No. 23 Seton Hall
A member of Chris Beard‘s first recruiting class at Texas, he performed well in the first half of the season. In December the Longhorns hit the road for a Top 25 matchup at Seton Hall. Tre Mitchell logged a season-high 36 minutes, scoring 19 points and securing 11 rebounds. Despite the impressive stat line, Texas got cold down the stretch and fell 64-60. Following the loss Mitchell only scored in double figures three more times and never logged more than 25 minutes in a game.
2022-23: Tre Mitchell Leaves West Virginia on a High
The stat sheet tells a story of a player that filled it up against lesser-quality opponents that struggled to score against the best of the best. That’s not exactly the case.
Following a season that did not go as expected at Texas, he stayed in the league and moved closer to home in Pittsburgh by transferring to West Virginia. In his third game he scored 21 points against Morehead State. The stabilized scoring continued at the start of Big 12 play, averaging 15.4 points through the first five conference contests. He hit a slight lull as the Mountaineers started to figure things out, then turned it on late.
Playing on the bubble in college basketball’s best conference, the phenomenal forward had back-to-back 20+ point games. He netted 3-of-5 three-pointers at Kansas to tally 20 points, but Phog Allen officials prevented an upset of the third-ranked Jayhawks. Mitchell ended the season by scoring in double figures in four consecutive games, including 13 points in a two-point loss to Maryland in the 8 vs. 9 game of the South Region.
