Trey Mullinax has locked up his spot in next week’s Open Championship.

On Sunday evening at Keene Trace golf course in Nicholasville, KY, Mullinax narrowly beat out Kevin Streelman on the 18th hole to secure victory at the 2022 Barbasol Championship. The Birmingham, AL native, who posted a six-under-par (66) on the final day, delivered a clutch birdie putt on 18 to secure the one-stroke win (-25) over Streelman.

The 30-year-old pro has automatically earned a position in the Open Championship, which begins on Thursday, July 14 and runs through Sunday, July 17 at St. Andrews in Scotland. Mullinax will take home the largest share of the Barbasol’s $3.7 million purse, which comes out to $660,000.

Mullinax and Streelman, who were in the same final group, were neck-and-neck throughout the back nine. They were tied at 23-under with just five holes to play and entered the 18th tied at 24-under. But Mullinax was able to drill his match-winning birdie putt while Streelman had to settle for par. He birdied three of his final six holes in order to have a shot at the championship.

This was Mullinax’s first career PGA Tour title and he is now fully exempt on Tour through the 2023-24 season.
