San Francisco guard Tyrone Riley IV withdraws from transfer portal

Developments are occurring rapidly in the transfer portal. Mark Pope and the rest of the Kentucky coaching staff are working diligently and quietly. All indicators point to the Wildcats adding a starter at the two in the free agency market. We don’t know who that will be yet but we know who it won’t be.
San Francisco guard Tyrone Riley IV is reportedly exiting the portal and returning to San Francisco for a sophomore season in the West Coast Conference.
The 6-foot-6 wing averaged 9.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 1.0 assists on .502/.322/.735 shooting splits in 34 starts as a true freshman. The Greater Los Angeles native earned WCC All-Freshman honors in 2025.
Kentucky and numerous other power conference programs reached out to the young player after he entered the transfer portal. The Athletic had Tyrone Riley IV ranked as a top-50 transfer. Kentucky assistant Jason Hart flew to California to meet with Riley before the current recruiting dead period.

Despite the interest, Riley is staying put at USF. Kentucky’s attention will now turn to others. The Wildcats are still in the market for potential starters at the two and in the frontcourt following the addition of Pittsburgh point guard transfer Jaland Lowe on Saturday.
USC guard transfer Wesley Yates III, Jacksonville State guard transfer Jaron Pierre Jr., Robert Morris forward transfer Alvaro Folgueiras, and Indiana forward transfer Mackenzie Mgbako are Kentucky targets to monitor as the portal activity continues.
