St. John’s might need to up the school’s security standards after what went down earlier this week.

According to the New York Post, a pair of still-unidentified burglars broke into Rick Pitino‘s office at St. John’s on Tuesday, leaving with $375 worth of memorabilia. The incident happened around 6:00 p.m. inside Carnesecca Arena with security cameras catching the two perps leaving the scene with a bullhorn (of all things). The New York Post also reports that a signed basketball, a ceremonial dagger (excuse me?), a mask, and bottles of alcohol were stolen.

Pitino took to social media to make light of the robbery, joking that the thieves stole a bottle of 1985 6L Petrus Pomerol, a very expensive red wine, before explaining that he would “never keep that on my desk” and that it’s reserved for when St. John’s makes the Final Four.

In the New York Post’s article, they included rather clear visuals of the two perpetrators, which were captured by security cameras. I imagine it won’t be long before the police find them and Pitino makes them pay — likely with suicide sprints.

Pitino, 71, is about to enter his second season as the leader of the Johnnies. In 2023-24, St. John’s finished 20-13 overall with an 11-9 mark in Big East play. The former head coach of Kentucky and Louisville has rebuilt his roster through the portal going into 2024-25. Unfortunately, he can’t rebuild the items stolen from his office.
