Will this finally be the year the College Football Hall of Fame gives Tim Couch a call?

The former Kentucky quarterback has spent a few years on the ballot, but has yet to receive enough votes from the National Football Foundation to join the best of the best in the College Football Hall of Fame. Only about .02% of those who played College Football make the cut. It’s about time Couch received the recognition.

The Leslie County native has already earned a spot in the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Hall of Fame, ending his prolific prep career with the national record for completions yards and touchdowns.

During his three seasons at Kentucky, Tim Couch set seven NCAA records, 14 SEC records, and 26 school records. The stats, Heisman Trophy votes and All-American honors are impressive, but they cannot quantify his impact on the sport. In Hal Mumme’s Air Raid, Couch started a college football revolution. He was the catalyst that changed the sport forever, making his entrance in the College Football Hall of Fame long overdue.

The announcement of the 2024 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be made in early 2024, with specific details to be announced in the future. The 2024 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be officially inducted during the 66th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on Dec. 10, 2024, and permanently immortalized at the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.

Mike Phillips Selected to Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame

A Kentucky basketball National Champion is being honored in his home state. Before he was a Twin Tower in the center of Joe B. Hall’s starting five alongside Rick Robey, Mike Phillips was a two-time Mr. Basketball in the state of Ohio. This Saturday his achievements will be honored in Columbus at the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame.

The 6-foot-10 center won a state championship as a senior in 1974, leading Akron Manchester to a perfect 26-0 record. Just like in high school, he ended his collegiate career with a championship. Phillips averaged 11.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game over four seasons. On the road to the 1978 National Championship, Mike Phillips saved his best for Magic Johnson and Michigan State, tallying 10 points and eight rebounds to help the Cats punch a ticket to the Final Four in St. Louis.
