Two Wildcats joined Club Trillion in the loss

The box score from Kentucky‘s loss to Ole Miss is full of maddening statistics (and one triple-double). Among the many stats that stand out, the Rebels’ assist-to-turnover ratio is the most damning. Ole Miss had 24 assists with only one turnover while scoring 98 points, which was 20 points above their average. 98 points, 24 assists, and one turnover tell the story of the Wildcats’ defense (or lack thereof).

Two players also stand out on the box score, and not for good reason. Ansley Almonor and Trent Noah each recorded the “trillion,” which means they failed to record a single stat during the game. Not a point. Not a rebound. No assists. No turnovers. Not a single shot attempt. Nothing. A line of zeroes for both of them, a sign of irrelevance in minutes played.

Almonor and Noah combined to play 28 minutes, making their trillions even rarer. For Almonor, it was a 15 trillion. Noah had a 13 trillion.

Only Kenny Walker in 1983 played more minutes in a Kentucky uniform without registering a stat, according to @BigBlueHistory.

A third Wildcat, Collin Chandler, nearly joined his two teammates in Club Trillion. Chandler took one shot to go 0 for 1 from the field in his three minutes without stats, or Kentucky would have three trillionaires in the loss.

Pope: “We weren’t actually good at anything”

In his postgame comments, Mark Pope admitted that nothing was working defensively for Kentucky. He told Tom Leach he would like for his Wildcats to be good at anything on defense, but Tuesday night was an all-systems failure.

“Right now, in this moment, in this game tonight, we weren’t actually good at anything,” Pope admitted after the loss.

Ole Miss set a record for assists against Kentucky. It was also the first game of the season with no ties and no lead changes. Kentucky trailed for 39 minutes and 43 seconds.
